Heir
Micah 5:2 (NIV)
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans[a] of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.”
A particular lyric from the Christmas Carol, O Little Town Of Bethlehem, that is rarely utilized says, “No ear may hear his coming, but in this world of sin, where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in.” In classic literature, hidden identity is popular. The surprise comes when the least likely person becomes heir to the kingdom. It almost sounds like a Hallmark movie with a twist.
Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and the heir to God’s kingdom, never hid His identity, still many in our world have never recognized Him. From the beginning, the folks in Bethlehem from the beginning didn’t acknowledge His coming, because He was born in humility – in a stable. I’m grateful that even when we, like the people in Bethlehem, fail to recognize His presence, He still extends compassion to us, always standing at the door of our hearts, just waiting for an invitation in. Why don’t you invite Jesus into your world today!
